The big move to Miami

Some months ago in a career conversation at work I was asked if I'd consider moving to Miami. I'd always said I wouldn't move on my own now that I'm older - it's more difficult to meet like minded people , too isolating. However the allure of a beach and a good job title had me hooked.

Since then it's been full of up's and down's - so I was surprised that in the final weeks of packing up life in England I seemed to be coping quite well. Not known for being unemotional, I found myself feeling quite neutral about everything. I think I just wanted to get on the plane and get on with my life. The months of limbo while waiting for visa's etc did my head in. So after about 6 leaving do's, frantically arranging removals men, squeezing in seeing everyone I love and a final secret cinema - off to Heathrow Terminal 3 I went.

I was very grateful to the BA head of cabin crew who brought me some champagne back in Cattle class. Also very grateful to the lovely immigration man who after a very long queue was welcoming, friendly and a great start to my USA adventure. This whole experience has really shown the great kindness of people that I have in my life - I had a call shortly after from Audrey ( US colleague) checking I'd arrived safely, my boss called first thing the next morning, I had lots of well wishes from all my friends and co workers. Lovely.

And so here I am....in Miami. My first weekend has been easier than I thought it would and I feel like I've achieved a lot. I've moved into my apartment, I've Uber'd to IKEA ( eating meatballs and mash while I was there), I've had a Saturday night out in Wynwood. I've eaten my fair share of bagels, got well over 10,000 steps in every day. My balcony has new furniture on it to enjoy wine and mighty fine views from. I've got a bank account, wifi and a social security number on its way.

The only thing I've not got yet are lots of friends around me. Plenty of time for that 😀
